AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is all about dogs, any and all breeds of dogs, including mixed breeds.

AKC's Canine Good Citizen program allows all dogs to be tested, whether they are purebred with papers to prove it, purebreds without papers, or Heinz 57 mixes of any kind.

How do I get my dog CGC certified?

By taken the CGC 10-item test.

Molen Pet Center is delighted to offer this certification on June 19, 2010.

How do I know if my dog is ready to be tested?

Check AKC's website on CGC requirements:

 http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfm

Will my dog and I need extra training before setting up my dog for the test?

The Workshop by Terrie Dahl on June 19, 2010 will show you whether you and your dog are ready to take the test. You can then choose to proceed with the certification or wait until a later date.

Terrie Dahl has extensive experience in training dogs for basic obedience. The AKC Canine Good Citizen program is basic obedience! You will be delighted to see how well you and your dog can perform with some simple and fun tests and "tricks".

Who gives the test?

Francisca (Fre'ke) Lytle is certified by the AKC to give the test. She is a certified CGC evaluator.

She has obtained certifications for all her own dogs. All the Lytle dogs featured on this website are  CGC certified. A CGC evaluator cannot certify their own dogs -all the Lytle pets were certified before Francisca became an evaluator - nor can an evaluator certify dogs they have trained or help train. Terrie Dahl will train and work with the dogs during the work shop while Francisca will do the certifications tests.

Why get my dog CGC certified?

Because it shows your dog is able to perform common tasks, judged to be important in well behaved dogs.

AKC states on their website many appartment / condominium complexes require a potential renter's dog to pass this test before allowing them to become residents!

Besides: it is fun to watch your dog show off his or her skills!

Come on down to Molen Pet Center and let us have some fun, while getting your dog his or her own certification!

(after you test you will submit your papers with the required $8.00 fee to AKC and you will obtain a beautiful certificate with  your dog's name as being a Canine Good Citizen)
